Weeping Ginkgo Trees
Huge Trees that Paint the Area a Wonderful Golden Color in Autumn
These are huge trees approximately 25 m high and estimated to be about 400 years old. It is said that they were planted in 1606 when the pagoda was constructed. The golden autumn leaves are exquisite. They are called “Weeping Ginkgo Trees” because there branches bend down toward the ground. But this is not the scientific name for them.
Municipally-Designated Natural Monument
Two-Story Pagoda at Henjo Temple
Weeping ginkgo trees at its side, this is the oldest two-story pagoda at Henjo Temple in the prefecture. It is also older than any of the four-building pagodas in the prefecture as well. It has been officially designated as an Important Cultural Property.
