With its impressionable red belfry gate, Daisenin Temple is for the Shingon esoteric Buddhism sect and since long ago is has been affectionately referred to as “Daisen-san.” A Seihan holy priest went to worship at Mt. Hoki-Daisen, a holy mountain, he brought back with him a part of the main deity enshrined there so it could be shared with another temple and worshipped. That is the origin of the Daisenin Temple.
On the 24th of every month by the old calendar, a temple festival is held and a large number of people from the city and neighboring areas come to attend memorial services for their ancestors.

Temple Festivals and Okageichi Market

The temple festivals held on the 24th of each month by the old calendar are called “Daisen-san.” Stalls and vendors line up in front of the main gate and the faithful come to worship. In timing with this, Kasaoka merchants set up a market area called “Okageichi” where people can buy products at bargain prices This affords another activity for the worshippers to enjoy aside from the temple festival.
