In the eastern part of Manabe-shima Island, which was the main base for the Manabe Navy, there are the ruins of two castles from the Middle Ages. The castle ruins on the eastern tip of the island 127 m above sea level. Not standing in its shadow, Mt. Shiro is between Honura an Iwatsubo and has an elevation of 84 m. The fortress and stone walls still remain. As castles for the Middle Ages navy, their remains are very rare in the prefecture. In 1960, the city designated them as ruins of historical importance.
